Quake Hits Southwestern Iran

A014269421.jpgAn earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale jolted the town of Ghaleh Tal in Iran’s southwestern province of Khuzestan on Tuesday. According to the seismological base of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake was registered at 08:50 hours local time (05:20 GMT).

The epicenter of the quake was located in an area measuring 49.9 degrees in longitude and 31.7 degrees in latitude.

No reports have yet been received on the possible number of casualties or damage to properties by the quake.

Hectic fault lines have made Iran a host to frequent earthquakes of varying degrees in magnitude.
