Moderate Quakes Shake Southern Iran

A00769957.jpgTEHRAN (FNA) – Four consecutive earthquakes have hit the southern Iranian province of Fars, the strongest of them measuring 4.2 on the Richter scale.

The moderate quakes shook an area surrounding the city of Jahrom in less than two hours, IRNA reported on Friday.

There were no reports yet of any casualties or damages.

Tehran University’s Geophysics Institute registered the epicenter of the last 3.5 magnitude tremor, which shook the area at 00:18:41 (local time), as 52.80 degrees longitude and 27.60 degrees latitude.

At the junction of three tectonic plates, Iran is frequently hit by earthquakes.
