Athens in warning to Ankara

BRUSSELS

Greek FM Dora Bakoyannis has informed Brussels about Turkey’s “provocative policy” of violating Greek airspace in the past weeks. The comments came as EU foreign ministers met in Brussels on Monday.

Bakoyannis said Turkey’s policy of sending its military planes to repeatedly fly over the Greek territory is unacceptable. She pointed out that EU members should have a clear picture on this ahead of the December publication of an appraisal of Turkey’s EU association path, ANA news agency reported.

“Turkey has so far failed to respect its obligations,” Bakoyannis said, adding that negotiations on EU membership are based on principles of good neighborly relations and peaceful resolution of disputes. Turkey cannot pick and choose which EU guidelines it wishes to follow in the pursuit of EU membership, Greek FM was quoted as saying.
