Greek FM reiterates Greek red lines before Nimetz

Greece’s Foreign Minister Dimitris Droutsas reiterated Greece’s red lines regarding name issue at last night’s meeting with UN mediator Matthew Niumetz, Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

I had the opportunity to reiterate once again Greece’s position on the Skopje name issue. It is a well known position; a clear, consistent, credible and honest position. First of all, the Greek government has the political will for a solution. And second, the framework for this solution – the solution that Greece can accept – is the well known red line: a geographical qualifier for every use, erga omnes, Greek Foreign Minister Droutsas underlined.

I had the opportunity to repeat to Mr. Nimetz Greece’s invitation to the Skopje leadership to come to the UN negotiating table, he added.

A day earlier, UN mediator Nimetz met with Macedonian President Gjorgje Ivanov. After their meeting, Ambassador Zoran Jolevski said that Ivanov have told Nimetz about Macedonia’s determination and readiness in finding an acceptable name settlement, which will protect the dignity of Macedonian citizens.
