Romania’s Tariceanu says date for EP election to be chosen in September

Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu said on Monday (July 2nd) that the date of the country’s first elections for European Parliament members will be set for September, immediately after the summer recess ends. Talks held in May and June only resulted in agreement on autumn elections.In other news Monday, the Democratic Party (PD) and the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD) sealed a protocol for political and parliamentary co-operation. Under it, PD, a former ally of Tariceanu’s National Liberal Party (PNL), and PLD, a formation of PNL defectors, officially define themselves as opponents of the current government.
