Aircraft Carrying Russian Navy Chief Crashes in Crimea

A Tu-134 aircraft carrying Russian Navy Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Masorin has crashed in Ukraine’s Crimea Region. Several navy officers suffered burns as a fire broke out on the plane.

 

Russia’s RIA-Novosti news agency reports that the Tu-134 airliner rolled off the runway in the Gvardeisky airport near the Crimean capital of Simferopol. One of the plane’s engines caught fire. Several officers sustained burns during the evacuation. Masorin was not injured in the accident.

 

Russian navy officers visited Crimea to attend the exercises of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in which the staff rehearsed a rescue operation for the sunken submarine.
